December

There was a large turn-out for the Overbury Bowling Club’s AGM on Thursday 1 – a healthy sign of increased membership.

On Saturday 3 Helen and Jay met in Oxford to see the Annual Ice Gala.

Jay returned for Christmas on Wednesday 14, though we took her back for a morning’s skating on Sunday 18.  Proficient enough now to be joining a dance class in the New Year, she also collected the new dress she will need for it.

On Thursday 15, Teresa, Helen and Jay successfully met up for the Horse of the Year show at Olympia and had a wonderful day out.  Last year had been a disaster when the snow prevented Teresa and Jay using their tickets.

More about Olympia

As in the past, we continued to have trouble with our central heating boiler, with rapid loss of pressure even with only light loads during the unusually mild weather.  On Tuesday 8 an engineer again failed to see any leak in the boiler though drips regularly collect underneath it.  As we first reported the fault eight years ago, we were not best pleased to be told the boiler was so old it ought to be replaced.  A fresh injection of sealer has fortunately reduced the problem to manageable proportions.  Later in the month the controller started to malfunction.  This time we were glad to have the prompt attention afforded by our service contract, though it took three quite lengthy visits before the problem was put right just in time for Christmas.

Helen returned on Thursday 22, so we were all together for Christmas week – a record of our Christmas has been posted separately:

Christmas 2011

Helen returned on Thursday 29, so Roger, Teresa and Jay saw the New Year in:  after the toast, we watched the spectacular London fireworks display on television, Jay and Roger played ‘The Day Dawn’ and Roger first-footed.
