On Saturday
12, after a couple of days of preparation, Teresa entered the Broadway show,
which she has done for a few years without very much success in the past. However, as it was a fine day, we went in the
afternoon to see the exhibits, and were delighted to find that Teresa had
followed up her success at Winchcombe a fortnight ago with several prizes. She had first and seconds in various
categories, earning her a share of the overall cup for Baking and
Preserves. Juliet bravely made an entry
in the calligraphy section, and was rewarded with a second prize.

Summer
bowling came to its end on Sunday 13, when Overbury Bowling Club closed its
green for the year. Members attended for
a couple of hours of bowling followed by the presentation of prizes for the
club competitions and a bring-and-share tea.
Fresh from her success in the Broadway show, Teresa was able to
contribute some of her winning entries to the latter, while Roger had a good
year in the competitions, with wins in two events and a runner-up prize.

On Wednesday 23 we took our annual ride on the
GWR. Since we moved to Toddington, the
track has been extended south from just beyond Winchcombe down to Cheltenham
Racecourse, and now is edging its way north towards Broadway, where the station
is being rebuilt. Hopefully, services to
Broadway will be possible in a couple of years’ time. For the moment, trains proceed as far as
Laverton before returning to Toddington, but this year, for the first time,
steam trains can run the Laverton section:
previously we had to transfer to the diesel railcar for this leg.
Our motive power this year was No 3850 (see below
left), new to us but a very powerful looking locomotive. Once again there was added interest in the
journey, as several parties of school-children joined the train in
Roger’s indoor bowls at
