Evesham

4 July 2008

For some years we have been coming to Evesham, or its out-of-town Four Pools shopping centre, for purely functional reasons.  Teresa had, however, spotted that there was a local museum, and, of course, there were boat trips on the river.  So with Jay back from college and Helen at home to watch the Wimbledon finals, we took a tourist’s view of the town for a change.

Our first visit was to the Almonry Heritage Centre which houses a collection of exhibits covering the history of the Vale of Evesham from prehistoric times through to the Second World War

Photography was not permitted in the house itself, but you can find a summary of the collection on the website:

After our tour of the house, we made our way through the pleasant gardens

The Almonry is situated at one end of the town centre, and, when we had finished, we walked into town for some refreshments

This caused no little consternation, as all four members of our party wanted different things, no two of which could apparently be found in the same establishment.  As Jay also decided she had some urgent shopping to do, we spent the next half hour rushing around in different directions – Helen to find coffee, Jay to find smoothies, Teresa to find Mr Whippies and Roger back to the car with Jay’s purchases.  Nobody got quite what they wanted, but we did eventually reconvene in the main street to eat our snacks and proceed to the river.

Here comes our boat

There is a regular service of 30 and 45 minute trips, but the first one we arrived for had been commandeered by a ladies’ luncheon club, so we decided to wait for the next

Ready to go
