On Tuesday/Wednesday 2-3 we visited Alton Towers.  Click below for our report:

Alton Towers

Jay took a driving test on Monday 8, but failed, unluckily we thought, because of undue hesitancy.  Another has been booked for January.

On a happier note, she has had a few singing lessons as a follow-up to her choir course last month, and has really enjoyed them.  She

has been singing in a choir at college, and hopes to find one locally that she can join just in the vacations.

We did a couple of quizzes in the month – one in Alderton, run by the local consortium of parish churches:  in the equivalent quiz last year we had come second.  This time, in our usual team, plus Juliet who also joined us, we managed to win against a slightly smaller field.  Later in the same week we went to a charity quiz at the pub across the road:  disappointingly, a small turnout and, from our point of view, a preponderance of film, TV and pop questions.  The winning team were way ahead, while we trailed in second equal with several other teams who had obviously also struggled.

On Sunday 21 Roger’s outdoor bowling season ended with the closing of the green.  A beautiful day for weather, and a good one for Roger, who collected two runner-up trophies for his success in the club competitions, and a bottle of wine for being on the winning rink after the day’s roll up.

The following day, we took Jay to the Talland School of Equitation near Cirencester for a lesson.  This world class establishment, which has trained the British Olympic team, operates in splendid new facilities in open country near the village of Barnsley (and, incidentally, is apparently still to be charted by Satnav, which dumped us at our ‘destination’ about three miles away and on the wrong side of the main road – ‘that’s what everyone says’ said the receptionist insouciantly).  Jay thoroughly enjoyed her lesson, and will hope to return for another one day.

On Monday 29 we took Jay to Worcester, where her music course last month had spent a day and sung evensong in the cathedral.  We looked round the cathedral again, an impressive building which Roger and Teresa had not seen before, and spent some time in the nearby shopping centre.  We were able to see exactly where Jay’s choir had sat and sung, while afterwards we all picked up some useful, if minor, items of clothing in the large M and S.
