birthday (later in the month) Roger and Teresa are to have lunch on the train
– one of the lunchtime specials run by Elegant Excursions on the nearby

We arrive at about half
past eleven for a 12 noon departure, and wait on the platform with the
girls. The carriages are already lined
up, but we are awaiting the arrival of our engine – a last-minute replacement
which needs to be moved from another train and coupled on to ours |

Once we have boarded, the
girls leave and we settle into our comfortable seats with an aperitif
provided as we board |

Perhaps because of our early
booking, we are seated right next to the kitchen car, so get served early,
and everything is piping hot and very good – the menu is below, from which we
had ordered the pate and beef for Teresa and the soup and chicken for Roger,
